THE NAME

War Horse Place

originates from the War Horse Division of North Ridge Farm.

The current version of War Horse Place was established in 2002 when Dana and Gerry Aschinger purchased the initial 90 acres. They officially licensed the name, which some old maps had already referred to as War Horse Farm. Over the next six years, they expanded the property by acquiring an additional 85 acres, increasing the total to approximately 180 acres.

The farm's development included preserving its historical charm while incorporating modern facilities. The only original buildings on the property, barns 1 and 2, were retained.

A custom home, designed to reflect the aesthetics of an old farm home, was completed in 2003. To accommodate more horses and create a designated sales prep area, barn 3 and a track-shaped walker were added in 2005. The farm office, which includes a guest apartment and a conference room with a large stone fireplace, was constructed in 2007.

The stallion barn, completed in 2009, was the final addition that transformed War Horse Place into a fully operational boutique farm, offering a range of premium services. To further enhance its capabilities, a covered round pen was added in 2022, expanding the farm's offerings and accommodating a wider range of training and service needs.

Behind every strong organization is an

inspirational force

with the vision and commitment to lead.

For War Horse Place, that force was our co-founder, Gerry Aschinger. Known for his kind spirit and warrior’s heart, Gerry approached every challenge with an unyielding “can-do” attitude, both as an entrepreneur and as a horseman.

Gerry’s entrepreneurial journey included the successful establishment and management of numerous businesses. In 2002, he and his wife, Dana, founded War Horse Place Farm. His dedication to the equine world led him to breed the multi-million dollar stakes winner Prayer for Relief, earn his trainer’s license, and train for eight years, producing stakes winners like Dramedy and Lots O’ Lex.

As a horseman, Gerry’s passion extended to polo. A member of the United States Polo Association (USPA) for 32 years, he played in Dayton, Scottsdale, and Sarasota, actively contributing to the polo community. His leadership in the USPA included roles as Governor At Large and later as Governor of Club Membership and Development, where he launched the Polo Plus program, which continues to benefit members today.

In 2008, Gerry became a board member of Global Licensing, overseeing USPA’s global clothing industry, and served as Chairman until 2018.

Though we deeply miss his strength and presence, Gerry’s spirit endures within our farm family. His legacy is not merely in what he left behind but in the impact he made on those around him. Gerry’s vision and dedication remain the cornerstone of War Horse Place Farm.

Our team is here to help.
